Communications Advisor

IPA are currently seeking an experienced Communications Advisor to work with a high profile government agency based on the Sunshine Coast. A 12-month contract opportunity is on offer with an excellent hourly rate.

In the role of Communications Advisor you will manage how key stakeholders, the community, motorists and the media view and understand transport infrastructure projects through communication and community engagement activities that are delivered in a structured, consistent, coordinated and effective manner and adhere to all departmental and public governance requirements. The role also provides high-level communication services and advice to project management, technical and professional staff on community engagement, stakeholder relationship, issues and media management for the project.

Accountabilities include:

  • Provide communication direction and leadership to the project
  • Lead, manage, coordinate and direct in a relational manner the tactical and operational communication, community engagement and marketing activities for the project
  • Lead, manage and coordinate the tactical strategies for implementation of community and stakeholder engagement and consultation activities for the project
  • Provide tactical and operational advice on issues management and communication strategies to the Project Manager and project team
  • Regularly liaise, meet and consult with the contractor and North Coast District communications teams to ensure the resolution and implementation of communication strategies and activities
  • Manage and coordinate the development and approval of communication material for the project
  • Develop and maintain ongoing key strategic relationships and networks with other government agencies, project partners, contractors, community and interest groups and internal and external clients
  • Ensure appropriate governance frameworks are maintained and adhered to in order to monitor compliance with policy, legislation, regulations, standards and procedures

Desirable requirements:

  • A current Class 'C' Drivers Licence
  • While qualifications are not mandatory, a degree in communications, public relations, journalism or marketing would be highly desirable.
  • At least five (5) years' experience in a strategic communication or community engagement role in an environment dealing with major infrastructure projects, particularly in the transport or civil engineering sector will also be highly regarded.
